With the most tech startups and venture capital per capita in the world, WIRED, established as an authority in the tech and digital space, made an insightful documentary on Israel’s startup scene as part of their Future Cities film series

The documentary, Holy Land: Startup Nations looks at how Israel’s unique history elevated the country to the forefront of the global economy in innovation.

WIRED visits Israel, the region of Judea, and Samaria (aka Palestine), to investigate how technology and innovation are emerging to become the region’s dominant themes.

EPISODE 2

..Called The Innovation hubs of Tel Aviv and Ramallah, WIRED explores how the city flourished so quickly as a vibrant tech hub. The video highlights how Israeli tech entrepreneurs see the world differently, finding solutions that others fail to notice. The film explores the scene developing amongst Israel’s neighbours in the young Ramallah, despite the political challenges they face.

EPISODE 3

In Episode 3, The power of fantasy, WIRED explores how Shimon Peres’s extraordinary legacy in shaped Israel’s innovation, tracing the evolution of the country’s world-leading education and R&D. This third installment features a visit to miLAB at IDC Herzliya, a prototyping centre that focuses on physical-digital interaction, an IDF intelligence unit to learn about the military’s unique hierarchical structure and autonomous drone startup Airobotics.

Finally, WIRED travels to Jerusalem, a city ‘complicated beyond description’, where we hear from Andy Dwonch of Gaza Sky Geeks, and Hani Alami of JEST to learn about how the political landscape in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem affects innovation.

EPISODE 4
The 4th episode of the series has a particular focus on sustainability within tech ecosystems. The films explores the government-planned tech city of Be’er Sheva and trace Israel’s socialist roots though a startup accelerator based in a Kibbutz.

The film also steps into Palestine’s planned city of Rawabi and discover how the region’s growth depends collaboration and bridging political divisions.
